Imbiber Show: Chillin' at Villains

Written by Dan Dunn
I'll be the judge of that! Had a great time on January 17th out at Villains Tavern in downtown LA, where I was honored to be a judge at a raucous cocktail competition sponsored by Becherovka and organized by our good friend Marcos Tello. Joining me at the judges table were the prodigiously talented mixologist Zahra Bates, who runs the bar at the Michelin-rated eatery Providence, and Shauna Der of the wildly popular foodie blog, TheMinty.com. An all-star lineup of cocktail-crafters turned out for the event, and then churned out an amazing array of drinks made with Becherovka... which is some seriously tasty herbal bitters. Among those competing (just to name a few) were Eric Alpern, Chris Bostick and Devon Tarby of The Varnish, Vincenzo Marianella of Copa d'Oro, the Tasting Kitchen's Justin Pike, Dave Kupchinsky of Eveleigh and Dan Long of Big Bar. Not gonna tell you who won the thing. You gotta listen to the podcast to find out. You can stream or download using the links below. Enjoy!

Talking Scotch with a Master

Written by Dan Dunn
Latest Imbiber Show was recorded at Spago in Beverly Hills with The Glenmorangie's master distiller, Dr. Bill Lumsden. We ate lobster, drank wine and sipped Scotch that costs $3,600 a bottle. (Yeah, I hate me sometimes, too.) Bill knows Scotch as well or better than anyone I've met, and is always happily willing to share his knowledge. Give a listen, Scotch lovers...

Getting Fresh at the French Laundry

Written by Dan Dunn
It doesn't get much better than this. Lunch at one of the world's most celebrated eateries, The French Laundry in Napa Valley, with 50 of the best bartenders in the world. And we got to record an episode of The Imbiber Show inside the restaurant! Among the libational luminaries we chat up - Jon Santer, Simon Ford, Joaquin Simo, Erick Castro, Dylan O'Brien and Giovanni Martinez. Also check in with Kit Codick, founder of our newest partner, Liquor.com. The visit to The French Laundry was part of an epic three-day drinking and eating extravaganza called Juniperlooza, sponsored by our friends at Plymouth and Beefeater. It also included a stay at Bardessono, a lobster "throw-down" dinner at Mumm Napa, a party at Bottega, and a much-needed stop at In n' Out Burger on the bus ride back to San Francisco. Hear all about it by clicking the links below...

A chat with the head of the 'Vice Squad'

Written by Dan Dunn
Our first guest on this edition of the most liquorlicious podcast in the listen-o-sphere is Mr. Craig Boreth, proprietor of Twice the Vice, where chocolatey goodness meets delightful tipsiness. Boreth infuses fine dark chocolate with top-shelf liquor like Macallan, Elijah Craig and El Diamante, to name a few. It's genius. And tasty as all hell. We're broadcasting from inside the cozy confines of The Basement Tavern in Santa Monica, and later in the show we're joined by bar manager TJ Williams, who knows a thing of twenty about whiskey. Tune in and tune out. Enjoy the sweet buzz of sauce-soaked confections.

Imbiber Show: Rambling 'Round the World Drinkin'

Written by Dan Dunn
It's summertime, and like many of you, the Imbiber is traveling. All over the place, actually. In this edition of the booziest podcast known to humankind, Stretch holds down the fort in LA while Dan drops by Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris (Oscar Wilde's grave, pictured), Terry Hoage Vineyards in Paso Robles, and the Ventura Limoncello Company in Southern California. Fun interviews at each stop, especially at the cemetery... yes, the dead can be quite entertaining! Links to download and/or stream are right below. Enjoy!

Stretch and I dropped by the posh Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills for the grand opening of 10 Pound, the very first dedicated The Macallan Single Malt Scotch Whisky bar in the U.S. We talked single-malt Scotch with Paul Ross of The Macallan, and enjoyed a few drinks with the one and only Jimmy Yeager of Jimmy's in Aspen, creator of the event's signature cocktail, The Jimmy Mac. Have pen and paper ready, cuz Jimmy divulges the recipe in the podcast! Ran into my pal Joel Stein of Time magazine at the event. Didn't get him for the show, though. He's shy. Seems our friend Alison Brie of "Mad Men" and "Community" (pictured), with whom I was on a panel with recently, was there as well, but didn't run into her. That's a bummer, because she's kinda dope. Did spy a dude named Jesse who's on "House" though. He was surrounded by adoring female fans, so we left him alone. I'm still giddy at the memory of all the delicious Macallan we had that night (and still a bit hungover, too!) Funny show, this one. Give a listen. Links below. And please pass along the link to your friends, so that we might make some new ones ourselves.

Imbiber Show visits Paris and Champagne

Written by Dan Dunn
Bonjour! The Imbiber Show team visited France... well, at least, HALF of the team did. That'd be the me half. Poor Stretch got left behind. It's okay, though, he got to listen to the audio I transmitted back tot he States before anyone else did. That's something, right? Good stuff in this one, including and interview with a rep from my host, Nicolas Feuillatte champagne. Also chatted up Glenn O'Brien, GQ magazine's "Style Guy." Glenn's a great chap and, I must say, quite the modish dresser. And he was awfully sweet to lie and tell me he liked my trucker hat, drab button-up ensemble (see photo). Some entertaining audio from a tipsy evening in Paris to wrap things up. Give a listen.
