2 oz. Knob Creek Bourbon 1 oz. simple syrup 5-10 mint leaves Muddle mint and simple syrup in the bottom of a julep cup (or in a lowball glass if you're without). Fill cup with crushed ice. Add Bourbon and stir. Garnish with fresh mint. |

| Hmm, minty knockout juice or 80-proof plum brandy -- pick your poison. These are two competent, potent teams, both of which gained favorable first-round results on incompetence by the opposing goalkeeper. Team USA's defense was masterful against England; Wayne Rooney was a complete non-factor. Slovenia doesn't have a Wayne Rooney to worry about, but Zlatko Dedic and Milivoje Novakovic are threats who've proven themselves in the German Bundesliga. They will need to be checked, but the US defenders may be able to play a little looser than they did against England. That looseness will translate to more midfield presence and a more attacking offense by the Americans. And Slovenia looks to defend. The U.S will win the possession statistic, but that won't win them the game. We've been hearing a lot about young American attacking midfielder Clint Dempsey and younger striker Jozy Altidore -- today is the day one or both will need to shine. |
