| Like so many of the best true cocktails, the red lion is a gin delight. For its interesting history, see David Wondrich's account at Esquire.com. We don't know whether the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon (whose colors are red, gold and green) have ever tasted a red lion, but someone should make them a batch to celebrate the ass-whupping they are about to lay on Japan. Where they drink sake. We could have offered some sort of sake cocktail (the silly-sounding sake-tini or something like) but we're happy to stick with the straight stuff. Is there a saying about not doing silly things with another country's liquor? There should be. |

| Oops, did we give it away? Yeah, problem is Japan is just not a great team. Not the worst team in the tournament (that would be the Kiwis) but possibly the second-worst. The Japanese (it says here) Blue Samurai come into the tournament sputtering, having been outscored 9 to 1 over a four-game losing streak. To get the ball into the back of the net, they'll need aggressive performances from midfielders Shunsuke Nakamura and Keisuke Honda. Cameroon has one of the best strikers in club soccer up front, Samuel Eto'o. The team captain had 9 goals in 11 qualifying matches and will be the focus of Cameroon's offense and whatever defense Japan can field. |
